Description

Merzouga is a small town located in the southeast of Morocco, right at the edge of the impressive Erg Chebbi dunes.

Often referred to by travelers as the “Sea of Sand”, this spectacular desert area stretches for 22 km in length and 5 km in width. The dunes are the highest in Morocco and offer a magical display of shifting colors throughout the day as the sunlight changes.

What makes Merzouga truly special is its simple and authentic way of life, the warm hospitality of its people, and the enchanting rhythm of traditional desert music.

Watching the sunrise or sunset over the golden dunes is an unforgettable moment of peace and beauty.

Camel rides, desert walks, and the stunning landscapes allow you to disconnect completely from the noise of daily life and enjoy an extraordinary, serene, and unforgettable desert experience.

Begin your journey early in the morning with pick-up from your hotel in Marrakech. We head toward Merzouga through the High Atlas Mountains, passing traditional Amazigh villages, ancient kasbahs, and breathtaking mountain landscapes. After crossing the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass, we arrive at Ait Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most remarkable UNESCO heritage sites.

Enjoy time to explore the ksar and its iconic architecture before sitting down for a traditional lunch in a local restaurant near the kasbah. The journey continues to Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa, where you can visit one of the region’s famous film studios and the Cinema Museum, both home to legendary international movie productions.

We then continue to Skoura, where you will spend the night surrounded by beautiful palm groves and ancient kasbahs.

After breakfast, we begin our journey toward the Sahara Desert. Our first stop is the Rose Valley in Kelaat M’Gouna, known worldwide for its rose fields and annual Rose Festival held in April and May. This region thrives on rose production, and local cooperatives create everything from perfumes to natural beauty products.

We continue through the dramatic Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural sites, before driving through Tinghir, the Dades Valley, and the palm groves of Tafilalet. Along the way, enjoy the changing scenery of oases, mountains, and desert landscapes.

Upon arrival in Merzouga, relax at the hotel before preparing for your desert experience. With a small overnight bag, ride your camel across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, a perfect opportunity to capture unforgettable photos of the sunset. After reaching the desert camp, you will enjoy a traditional dinner, nomad music around the fire, and a magical night under the stars.

Wake up early to witness the beauty of the sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast at the camp. Ride camels back to the hotel to take a shower and prepare for the journey to Marrakech.

Our first stop is the town of Rissani, known for its fossil workshops and traditional markets. We then continue through Alnif, Tazarine, and the Draa Valley, the longest palm valley in Morocco and famous for its many varieties of dates. Enjoy free time for lunch along the way.

In the afternoon, we cross the High Atlas Mountains once again through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, enjoying panoramic views and charming Amazigh villages before arriving back at your hotel in Marrakech, where our tour concludes.
